I figured it out. The main reason why I’m drawn to French “Pop Urbaine”. It’s the same reason why RedOne is one of my favorite producers of all time. Their sound is just so global. The melodies are so exotic, like you’re on a trip somewhere foreign. On top of a vibey beat. Not to mention loving some of the scenery in their music videos. There’s no more RedOnes, Timbalands, Max Martins, Akons, etc. in today’s pop music anymore(at least not as prominent), so me being the fiend I am, I’ve had to tap more into European playlists like “Chill House” and “Pop Urbaine” for my “new music with catchy melodies” fix 🤣 🤣 🤣.Â
Is there a more underrated rapper in the industry than Westside Boogie (formerly Boogie)? I’ve never heard less buzz around a rapper who delivered a highly critically-acclaimed debut album. His music’s being produced under Eminem to boot. This song featuring Joey Bada$$ is the musical version of that Spiderman pointing at Spiderman meme.
She’s a woman. She’s what one may consider attractive. That’s 92.7% of the battle of getting promoted by a major label and becoming popular in the US these days. In all fairness though, she appears to be decent and is not resorting to using her body like other female Hispanic Pop artists from New York (see Cardi B, Jennifer Lopez). Most importantly, this song is just catchy enough to earn her some attention as an artist on the rise.
A new pop/R&B artist to look out for. Nice light harmonic voice. A modern-day Brandy.
Radio-friendly Afrobeats + Reggaeton = Smash hit in the making.
It’s an absolute debacle that this song wasn’t nominated for a Grammy. I think it’ll stand as The Weeknd’s biggest and best single, which is saying a lot because “The Hills” and “Starboy” were crazy af. Trust me, I know that electro-pop style of music is passé. But man. This is a mind-blowing song that will actually be very memorable as years pass. This comment sums it up perfectly:
Thomas Cruise10 months ago His music sounds like the past, present and future all together 106K
I don’t care about the Grammys. But they are what they are. So I was pleasantly surprised to see that one of the underrated gems I’ve picked here was nominated for a Grammy. I held out on posting for a while, and this is one of the few great songs I’ve discovered and wanted to share from Spotify’s weekly New Music Friday playlist. Even without a video for it. Just a little proof that you can be sure to only find songs a cut above the rest here! Congratulations to this talented artist.
What a super smooth eclectic electronic R&B vibe. Superb musicianship by this newly-discovered artist, Phoenix Troy. I really enjoyed this song. Another hidden gem courtesy of Kitsuné Musique, one of the very best indie labels in the world.
I still like the song they sampled here better, but Raye — and Rudimental — can do no wrong when it comes to house music.
These guys said it perfectly: Another French Club Banger. Impressed that Spotify added this to the American New Music Friday playlist. Been featuring select “Pop Urbaine” and French Trap hits here since ’17. And she is a superstar.
This hook? Theme song of 2020. I’ve already made it clear what I think about Young Dolph, but Glock came in WAY TOO HARD on this. Hide the wives and kids from this one.
For me, she’s the best female rapper in the game. Is this her hottest single? Nah. But I love the way she raps. She captivates.
As I slodged through all the generic music released this on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, this actually saved me from falling asleep. It’s different. Jazzy-pop. Well done.
Very eclectic vibe.
In all my years of listening to hundreds of thousands of songs, I have never heard anything like this. As described here, it’s Opera blended into Deep House. Majestic. Epic. Masterful… all are apt descriptions for this gem.
Wow. A hidden melodic house gem.
Birdman’s been good for a quality single every year or two for the past 20 years. I like his style. He’s not gonna out-rap anybody. But he doesn’t need to. He has one of the best ears for music in the history of Hip Hop. This is a dope chill low-key vibe.
🔥🔥🔥. Front seat on her Day 1 bandwagon.
If you still listen to the radio, you’ll probably end up hearing it aloooooot. It’s a banger.
This beat hard.
Shocker: A new song that doesn’t sound generic and is actually pretty good. This is an artist to watch.
